Session Time: 9:30 AM-12:00 PM daily
Fee: $195
This workshop is part of Charter Arts’ Summer Academy, a program of art enrichment workshops that is open to the public.
This workshop is taught by an industry professional with more than twenty years of experience working in casting and as a producer on over 600 commercial, tv and film projects. Participants will learn how the on-camera acting industry ‘really’ works, both regionally and in the larger markets of New York and Los Angeles. Participants will learn critical ‘cold read’ techniques required when auditioning for commercial, tv and film projects. Participants will work in front of the camera each session and will receive individual coaching and critique. In addition, lessons will focus on the skills needed to work effectively with agents, managers, casting directors and directors. Participants will also learn tips of top bookers and how to avoid the biggest mistakes that actors make both in front of the camera and in navigating the business itself. Open to teens entering 8th-12th grades. Limited Enrollment!

“When I started this camp I wasn’t sure what we were going to do, but immediately we were introduced to the arts of film and tv and I was immediately amazed.”

Exercises will include photo prompt writing, reactions, and live google-document discussion on the “short film of the day,” character creation, character motivations, script tricks and philosophies, music incorporation, and camera movement as narrative and storytelling. Please note that this is not a filmmaking workshop. Open to children entering 7th-9th grades (6th grade may be considered).

FEATURED PLAYS:
“Man, Oh Man…” written by Katherine Conlon. When a bitter children’s TV host refuses to change with the times, a young girl is selected to be his new partner. However, she’s not all sugar and spice. This play skewers both sides of the political spectrum, while looking at what lurks behind the showbiz curtain.
“Couples Therapy,” written by Rylan Foraker. Get a glimpse into the average couples therapy session hosted by leading therapist Elizabeth Gwen. Experience a spectrum of emotions as you watch three of her most interesting couples.
“Celiac Strong,” written by Alexa Rojo. A meeting of the Celiac Strong Organization gets out of hand when some overprotective mothers come to blows. The appearance of a giant bread monster is just what they need to put things into perspective.
