Opera & Classical Voice Workshop

(The dates  and instructor for this workshop have changed since the last posting.  This is the updated information.) Opera and classical music are more popular than ever with children and teens. From acts like Jackie Evancho and the Italian teen pop opera trio, Il Volo, classical voice is making an impact on all ages.  This workshop is for the intermediate to advanced vocal student, with a developed voice. Not for beginners.
Open to students entering 9th-12th grade.
One Week Session:  July 28-August 1

Broadway Music Camp: July 21-25

Broadway Music Camp (limited openings available)
Are you a budding Broadway diva? This class is designed for students looking to become triple threats. Students will strengthen their abilities in acting, singing and dancing through one-on-one coaching while learning to work in an ensemble with others who share a passion for the spotlight. By the end of the course, students will have improved their audition skills and feel ready to tackle the Great White Way –  or at least the next school play!

So You Want to Perform like a Pop Star or Jazz Singer?  This program is designed to give vocal students a major edge in all aspects of performing in front of an audience.  Each student will develop their music skills through coaching and ensemble work.  Participants will create a one- hour show to perform at MusicFest in early August.

“To be or not to be…”– This workshop will challenge the teen actor with all that is Shakespeare– from fundamentals to performing soliloquies.  Certainly a MUST HAVE skill set in every actor’s arsenal of training and an important resume builder.

Painting for Beginners: July 21-25

Part of the 2014 Summer Academy.  A program of arts enrichment workshops open to the community.
 
Painting for Beginners (openings available)
If you love to read and draw comics or have a passion for graphic novels and illustrated books, then you will love this course. The major emphasis of the class will be on painting in gouache and watercolor, but other techniques including pen & ink and colored pencil will be explored. Students will develop their own unique narratives and explore the fantastical worlds of character design, worldbuilding, and storytelling.
Open to children entering 8th-11th grade

Acting for Commercial, TV/Film Workshop: July 8

Part of the 2014 Summer Academy, a program of community workshops and day camps.
 
Acting Workshop for Commercial, TV and Film (limited openings available)
This workshop is taught by an industry professional with over 18 years experience as a casting director and producer and more than 600 credits in commercial, television and film.    Did you know that there is a thriving local (PA/NJ/Del) acting industry and there is a wide variety of work available for actors of all ages, especially those in the 30-70 age range?   This workshop will introduce the beginning actor  or the theater actor  who is making the transition to the on-camera industry, critical techniques required when auditioning for commercial, tv or film projects.  Students will work in front of the camera each class to improve their ‘cold-read’ skills.  Students will learn tricks of top bookers and how to avoid the bad habits that knock an actor out of the running at an audition. The class will also include valuable information on how to navigate the business, including:   understanding the local market vs. NY/LA, working with casting directors and agents, headshots/resumes, and MORE!  (This class is  designed for adults, but a 16-17 year old student may be considered.)

Teen Theatre Workshop: July 7-11

Part of the 2014 Summer Academy, a program of community workshops and day camps.
 
Teen Theatre Intensive (limited openings available)
For the younger teen actor who wants to push their acting to the next level, this workshop will be jam-packed with exercises that will fine tune the actor’s individual style.   This workshop will also include some writing as well.   A great workshop for a student who is considering attending Charter Arts.

‘Fun with the Arts’ Day Camp: July 7-11

Part of the 2014 Summer Academy, a program of community workshops and day camps.

Fun with the Arts” Day Camp  (openings still available)

This day camp is designed for the middle school student who just wants to have fun exploring dance, music, theater and theatre prop and tech skills.  The program is filled with fun, fun, fun and is a great opportunity for kids to tap into their creative side.  Kids who attend this session will enjoy meeting new friends, learning from outstanding instructors and will have the chance to let loose!

Wednesday, June 11

Staff, parents, and students are all invited to celebrate our senior class at the Senior Send-Off Event on June 11, 7pm at The Banana Factory, 25 W. 3rd. Street, Bethlehem.

The night will be jam-packed with fun and special moments!

There will be two guest staff speakers (a surprise!), performances by both seniors and juniors ranging from musical acts to dance performances to poetry readings to theatre improv, and the very special annual candle ceremony, where a senior from each artistic major will ‘pass the torch’ to a junior counterpart.
